Shahs of Sunset is an Persian-American reality TV show that was initially premiered on Sunday, March 11th, 2012 on Bravo network. Shahs of Sunset is about the lives of six captivating young Persian American friends who live in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. Los Angeles is also known as “Tehrangeles”, as the vast majority of the LA population is occupied by Persian-Americans. The show was initially partnered with Ryan Seacrest Productions; the network’s latest documentary series follows a group of friends who are trying to juggle their active social lives and up-and-coming careers while balancing the demands of their families and traditions.
Shah’s of Sunset represents the life style of typical Persians living in LA, such as lavish parties, Beverly Hills Cosmetic surgeries, luxurious cars and the taste for the flashiest and expensive Blingz. The show might look similar to other reality programs such as Jersey shore or real housewives, but it sure has a different taste.
The six Persian stars of the show are; Reza Farahan, Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi,Asa Soltan Rahmati, Mike Shouhed, Mercedes “MJ” Javid and Lilly Ghalichi. However the two favourites of the show are Reza Farahan and MJ.
Reza who is mainly known for his mustache and his calm character is said to be one of the favorites of the show. His mustache is so famous, that it has various fan pages on different social networks such as twitter and Facebook. The 41-year-old was born in Tehran, Iran and raised in Beverly Hills by his mother. He is currently occupied in an international real estate franchise called “Keller Williams Realty”.
Next in in the line is MJ, who is 42-years-old and works with Reza at Keller Williams. MJ Who always struggled with her weight was put on diet pills by a physician at age 14 in order to try to lose extra pounds, though she later quit them. There are various reports that claim that she has had various cosmetic surgeries and liposuctions in the past. In 2014 she lost over 14 pounds, which surprised most people and brought up the controversy of her having cosmetic surgeries in Beverly Hills Top Cosmetic Clinics.
The show has been nominated as one of the most popular shows in Bravo, with having an estimate of 2-3 million viewers per episode. Even though the show has been a success in American community but JHO reports that many in the Persian community, think this reality show, needs a reality check. Unfortunately many of the Persian believe that this show does not represent the real life style of Persians living in the US.
